In a groundbreaking step for sustainable period care, Bettii Pod Ltd, a femtech start-up founded by Elaine Galston in 2021, has secured £337,000 in funding to advance its innovative solution for menstrual product hygiene. This investment marks a significant leap forward in addressing the hygiene and convenience challenges associated with reusable menstrual products.
A Solution for Sustainable Period Practices
Bettii Pod has developed a cutting-edge menstrual cup and disc washer designed for public toilet cubicles, aiming to make reusable menstrual products more practical and hygienic. By offering an accessible and efficient solution for cleaning these products, the Bettii Pod promotes sustainable period practices and empowers menstruators to make environmentally friendly choices without compromising on convenience.
“We’re solving a real problem for women while promoting sustainable solutions," said founder Elaine Galston. "This investment will allow us to bring our vision to life and make reusable menstrual products more accessible.”
Strategic Investment and Collaboration
The funding round was led by Edinburgh-based angel syndicate Equity Gap, with additional co-investment from Scottish Enterprise and 12 angel investors introduced by Leeds-headquartered Lifted Ventures. Lifted Ventures also provided strategic guidance and access to key industry networks, which Galston described as “invaluable” in accelerating the development of Bettii Pod.
“Lifted Ventures immediately understood the challenges our product addresses for women and recognised the potential of the market we’re targeting,” Galston added. “Their members are more than investors; they bring networks and skillsets that are often difficult to secure.”
Championing Female Founders and Femtech
This funding round highlights the growing recognition of femtech’s potential and the need to support female founders in tackling gender-specific health and hygiene challenges. Jordan Dargue, co-founder of Lifted Ventures and leader of the investment round, expressed pride in supporting a pioneering product like Bettii Pod.
“We know the challenges of being a female founder, particularly in developing hardware for a blood-based femtech product,” Dargue said. “Supporting Bettii to realise their ambitions has been particularly satisfying, especially knowing that our women angel investors understand both the product and its potential.”
Scaling Up to Meet Demand
With approximately 15 million people in the UK who menstruate, Bettii Pod is poised to make a significant impact. The funding will accelerate commercial development, enhance market engagement, and bring the product closer to public availability.
By addressing a key barrier to reusable menstrual products—hygiene in public settings—Bettii Pod is helping redefine the future of period care while fostering sustainability and convenience.
